Testimonial 23: VAE BTS Insurance at 51 Years Old!

Partager

What did you do before the BTS? What grade are you in? In what type of establishment? (High school, CNED…)

So I am not technically in BTS Assurance, I am 51 years old and I work in an insurance agency without the BTS Assurance diploma. To obtain a diploma with my experience, I am currently preparing a VAE. A VAE is a validation of acquired experience; it can be a diploma, a title, or a professional qualification certificate RNCP.

To pass a VAE, you must meet a condition which is to justify at least 1 year of experience directly related to the certification sought. The advantage of the VAE is that there is no age limit; anyone, regardless of age, nationality, status, or education level, can undertake a VAE.

Why did you choose the insurance world? What interests you?

I chose the insurance industry because I enjoy customer contact and claims management. The advantage of insurance is that tasks are relatively varied and we almost never do the same thing twice.

Are you in work-study or initial training? And in what type of company are you? (general agent, broker, mutual insurance company)

I am currently working in an office of a general insurance agent.

What would you advise students wanting to get into insurance studies?

I recommend gaining as much training as possible to be able to climb the ladder later (e.g., law).

Did you encounter any difficulties when you started? (in class and in the company) Which ones?

The biggest difficulty I faced was the lack of foundational knowledge; I did not have the basic knowledge required by the BTS Assurance. It’s important to know that the grading for a VAE is quite different from the BTS Assurance; the exams are not the same. It is conducted in the form of an oral presentation before a jury.

Do you think you’ll do insurance for your whole life? Why?

I think so, because insurance is truly a field where I thrive, and I don’t plan to change for the moment.

What kind of student are you? (Not revising too much with ease, studying a lot, studying little…)

I’m not a student; I am a 51-year-old adult returning to studies because, when I was young, I didn’t like school, and I regret not continuing my education. Employers today require diplomas. So I advise students reading this testimony to go as far as possible in their studies so they are not blocked during job interviews.

If you continue your studies, in what area would you like to specialize?

I would like to explore management and team supervision. I hope that the VAE for the BTS Assurance will help me achieve this goal.

Do you have anything to add?
