This is the testimony of a second-year BTS Assurance student who previously completed another BTS before the BTS Assurance.
What class are you in and what were you doing before joining the BTS Assurance?
Currently, I am in my 2nd year of BTS Assurance in initial training, and before that, I did the 1st year of a BTS ESF (social and family economy), because I didn’t like it. I completed a professional Baccalaureate in management-administration.
Why did you choose insurance?
Because during my baccalaureate, I had internships with an insurance broker, I did secretarial work, and I instantly liked this world. I enjoy helping people, advisors, and I like tertiary careers, so working behind a desk… That’s everything I love.
Do you think it’s difficult to find an internship in the insurance field?
No… Not at all! Contrary to what people think. There are some stereotypes about vocational high schools. Vocational Baccalaureates, unlike general ones, have completed many internships; internships are important for professionals because they show that you have experience, and during recruitment, a professional will favor someone who has a vocational baccalaureate over someone with a general baccalaureate.
To find an internship, you need to have a CV and a cover letter, good attire, and good communication skills.
What would you advise someone who wants to start a BTS Assurance?
You need to be confident. Insurance is a world where you either love it or hate it. You have to enjoy helping, advising, being patient… liking office work, paperwork. Also, having a good level of spelling and being diligent in your work is important.
Is there a change between terminal year and BTS?
Yes, first of all, in terms of dress code, in BTS Assurance, in my high school, we’re not allowed to wear ripped jeans, tracksuits, etc. You need to have civil attire, a shirt for boys. In terms of assignments, it’s more intense because in final year I had some, but honestly, it’s nothing compared to BTS. Afterwards, nothing extraordinary, and it’s not bothersome; when you love the studies you do, you enjoy learning actually!
What type of student are you? (Studying a lot, little, with ease…)
I am more of a serious and motivated student with some difficulties. I review a little on weekends and during the week, I do what I can.
Do you plan to work in insurance your whole life? Do you plan to continue higher education or specialize?
No, honestly, I don’t think so, but I also don’t know what else I could work in.
This is just a hypothesis for now, but I think I will pursue a Bachelor’s in CCAB (client relations in insurance and banking)
Do you have an ideal career plan?
My ideal career plan would be to get my BTS, do a license, and become a client manager in banking/insurance within an agency. Later, maybe run my own business because I prefer not to take orders anymore.
I hope the testimony of this second-year BTS Assurance student has been helpful to you.
