Témoignage 1 : Student in Insurance BTS returning to studies

Partager

Here is the testimony of a student in BTS Assurance who had an unconventional and original path.

Which class are you in?

I completed a vocational baccalaureate in the fashion industry that I obtained in 2013, then a year of undergraduate studies in foreign languages applied. From 2014 to 2017, I worked in various stores. (Cotonniers counter, Intermarché, McDonald’s…).

After doing all this, why did you choose insurance?

At the beginning of 2017, I paused and reflected on my future. I was 21 years old and it was essential for me to know where I wanted to go for my future, so I tried to get closer to what I liked (languages, I am bilingual from birth and had ease learning other languages). But it didn’t work out. At the start of 2017, I paused and reflected on my future. I was 21 years old and it was essential for me to know where I wanted to go for my future, so I tried to get closer to what I liked (languages, I am bilingual from birth and had ease learning other languages). But it didn’t work out. I loved what she told me, and it was obvious to me to steer towards insurance. Everything happened smoothly.

What interests you in insurance?

I like contact with clients, I love helping them, enabling them to find solutions. As an insurer, we are here to sell our products, but above all to find solutions so that our clients are well insured, and that’s what I love about insurance.

Where did you do your internship or work-study? (Broker, general agent…)

I didn’t have the chance to do my first year in work-study, so I did a 2-month internship with a AXA general agent (who subsequently hired me for 3 weeks during the summer?). Then, I completed the internship at the start of my second year of BTS with an Aviva agent. I shifted to work-study during my second year with a GAN general agent, and we also do brokerage.

Did you have trouble finding your internship company?

Not at all! I was lucky because the AXA agent is my grandmother’s insurer, and I had already called the Aviva agent for a work-study, he wasn’t recruiting but was taking interns.

How long before the start of the school year did you start your search?

For my first-year internship, I started 1 month in advance, knowing that it would take place at the end of May. For my second year, I started 1 week early, knowing that my internship started at the end of October.

What would you advise someone wanting to start a BTS Assurance?

To go for it with your eyes closed and study well! It’s a very interesting field, but it can also be quite complex.

Did you encounter difficulties when you started the BTS?

A little, enough time to get back into the swing of things after 3 years without being in an educational setting! But I have friends who helped me, and now it’s better.

What kind of difficulties were those?

Difficulty re-engaging with revisions and finding a school rhythm where you have to get up early. Since I worked in catering, I had shifted hours.

Do you think you’ll do insurance your whole life?

I hope so. I try to be versatile; next year, I will start a license in insurance/banking/finance to be able to touch more areas.

Do you find the BTS Assurance difficult? Which subject gave you the most trouble?

Not particularly, if you study the courses.

Claims processes were challenging for me. I find it the most complicated because you need to be very meticulous with legal texts, conventions…

What do you think of the subjects taught in BTS? What is your favorite subject?

They are quite comprehensive! That’s what I find in the company.

Life insurance! Everything related to health, such as life insurance for example.

What kind of student are you? (Studying a lot, little, with ease…)

Let’s say I have an ease in remembering what I learn or see, so I’m average, and when I really get into revision (which is the case this year, as I have the BTS at the end of the year), I know I can give my all and reach a fairly good level.

Would you like to specialize in a field later?

I’d mainly like to specialize in insurance, but also do some finance (life insurance…) and banking at the place I work.

Do you already have an ideal career plan?

I want to be a general agent! I’d like to take over someone’s portfolio later or initially partner up. I know I will have the skills to do this job in a good company, preferably.

Finally, I just think that this isn’t an easy job; insurers are often labeled as crooks or scammers. I find it a shame that people have this image of it, when in fact, it’s such a great profession.
