Testimonial 23 : VAE BTS Insurance at 51 years old!

Partager

What did you do before the BTS? What grade are you in? In what type of establishment? (High school, CNED…)

So, I am not specifically in BTS Assurance; I am 51 years old and work in an insurance agency without a BTS Assurance diploma. To obtain a diploma with my experience, I am preparing a VAE. A VAE is a validation of acquired experience, and it can lead to a diploma, a title, or a professional qualification certificate RNCP.

To pass a VAE, you must meet a condition which is to justify at least 1 year of experience directly related to the certification sought. The advantage of VAE is that there is no age limit; anyone, regardless of their age, nationality, status, or level of education, can undertake a VAE.

Why did you choose the insurance world? What interests you?

I chose the world of insurance because I enjoy customer contact and handling claims. The advantage of insurance is that tasks are relatively varied, and we practically never do the same thing twice.

Are you in work-study or initial training? And what type of company are you in? (general agent, broker, mutual)

I am currently working in a firm of a general insurance agent.

What advice would you give to a student wanting to pursue insurance studies?

I advise gaining as many qualifications as possible to then climb the career ladder (e.g., law).

Did you encounter difficulties when you started? (in class and at work) Which ones?

The main difficulty I faced was the lack of basic knowledge; I didn’t have the foundational skills required by the BTS Assurance. It’s important to know that the grading for a VAE is quite different from that of the BTS Assurance; the exams are not the same. It is conducted orally with a jury.

Do you think you’ll do insurance your whole life? Why?

I think so, because insurance is truly a field where I thrive, and I don’t plan to change for the moment.

What type of student are you? (Not revising too much with ease, revising a lot, revising little…)

Well, I am not a student; I am an adult of 51 who is going back to school because, as a young person, I didn’t like school, and I regret not continuing my studies, as employers to this day ask for diplomas. So I advise students reading this testimony to go as far as possible in their studies so they aren’t held back during interviews.

If you continue your studies, what will you specialize in?

I would like to focus on management and team supervision. I hope that the VAE for BTS Assurance will help me achieve this goal.

Do you have anything to add?

Thanks for your help!
