A clear opinion to make the right training choice with this testimony from a BTS Insurance student.
What were you doing before the BTS? What grade are you in? What type of establishment? (High school, CNED…)
Before joining the BTS, I was working in retail. Currently, I am in my first year of BTS (alternating).
Why did you choose the insurance world? What interests you?
Insurance combines everything that interests me, namely, a direct relationship with the client, a management part, and mainly a significant amount of reflection (no routine, as each client has a different or differently formulated request). Moreover, the insurance market, according to current data, is quite promising.
Are you in an apprenticeship or initial training? And what type of company are you in? (General agent, broker, mutual)
I have been in an apprenticeship since September 2019 in a brokerage firm.
What would you advise to students who want to start studying insurance?
First, look at the subjects (national BTS reference framework) to see the coefficients and get an idea of the work required. I want to say that the BTS Insurance is the second most difficult, with a lot of learning. If possible, do a shadow day at an insurance company. But to reassure you, once you start, it’s great — you learn a lot because there’s sales, economics, and law.
Did you encounter difficulties when you started? (In class and in the company) Which ones?
Yes, lots of learning and organization challenges. Lots of information to process. To give you an idea, in AP (personal insurance): there are formulas to learn for calculating social security benefits, which in itself is easy, but still tricky.
Do you think you will do insurance for your whole life? Why?
Yes, it looks promising; on the one hand, as mentioned above, insurance covers areas I like.
Was there a big change between high school and the BTS?
Yes, it’s different because there is a slightly heavier workload than in high school.
Do you find the BTS difficult? Which subjects do you find hard? Why do you find them difficult?
Yes, it’s really technical in certain aspects of insurance. We are here to learn insurance techniques and to be able to use them, putting them into practice at the end of the BTS (two years to learn the basics of insurance). Moreover, this year, the BTS is focused on sales, conducting appointments, selling a product, or managing a claim with a client. It requires transversal skills.
What type of student are you? (Not revising too much with ease, revising a lot, revising little…)
Always, I have a natural ability to learn, I have easily gotten good grades. But in BTS, it’s different because if you don’t know the exact definition or technique, it’s a zero. Correctors expect certain elements in a definition, so you don’t need to memorize definitions by heart.
Do you have any tips for better learning your courses?
Not really, because the organization of courses is very personal.
If you continue your studies, what would you like to specialize in?
For now, I want to validate the BTS and see from there.
A claim management license might interest me.
Do you already have an ideal career plan?
Not yet, I haven’t thought about a potential career plan yet.
Do you have anything to add?
Really look at the subjects (BTS insurance reference framework), download the free excerpt of the Aide BTS Assurance ebook covering the BTS Assurance reference frameworks, or go to FNAC to browse a book on BTS INSURANCE.
I strongly recommend attending open house days at various institutions offering this training.
