Here is Kevin’s testimony, creator of Aide BTS Assurance. He shares his journey, his difficulties, and his feelings about the BTS Assurance.
What studies did I pursue before the BTS Assurance?
I completed a fairly standard academic path. Before the BTS assurance, I completed a general baccalaureate with a social science option, including political science.
Following this baccalaureate, I decided to enroll in a BTS Assurance in 2016 at the Claude Nicolas Ledoux high school in Besançon.
Very good high school with a high success rate in the BTS and very effective teachers.
Why did I choose insurance?
In my opinion, it’s a very diverse profession with many positions available, because the average age in this sector is quite high; therefore, insurers are looking for young talents.
It’s also a sector that impacts everyone, and I wanted to learn more, especially about auto insurance, which interests me more.
Did I do my BTS as part of an apprenticeship?
Yes and no. Initially, I wanted to do the two years as an apprenticeship, but I wasn’t able to find a company that could host me for both years.
In the end, I managed to find a company willing to take me on for my first year as an intern and then switch to apprenticeship in the second year. The company chose this solution to give me a solid foundation through initial training, then switch to apprenticeship in the second year to gain professional experience.
Was the job search difficult?
I sent many applications, but I received few responses.
I used LinkedIn, spontaneous applications, indeed, the site « la bonne alternance » (by Pôle Emploi), and finally, I registered with the local job center to get support in my search.
At the start of my search, I was quite selective (maybe a little too much) about my criteria; I wanted the company to be close to my home, I preferred a small firm, etc.
I talked about my search with everyone around me. (Friends, family, former colleagues…)
It was this last method—using my network—that worked for me. I finally found a company one week after the school started.
Ultimately, the company matched my expectations; it was close to my home, and it was a small firm with four staff members who were able to answer all my questions.
This is the facade of the firm where I did my internship and apprenticeship.
Where did I do my internship and apprenticeship?
I completed my internship and apprenticeship at an insurance brokerage firm with several physical branches in France. The name of this broker is Xylagroup, headquartered in LYON, formerly Montanay.
When did I start my search?
I started my search in May for a September start. After some reflection, I probably should have started a bit earlier to contact more companies.
How did my BTS Assurance go?
My two years went very well; during the first, I was able to acquire solid basics, as I was focusing on the theoretical aspects all week.
We had 8 weeks of internship, with our first week in December.
From January to April, we were in the company every Friday; then, from May to June, we were there every day.
During this internship period, I learned a lot about claims management, especially in auto insurance. I saw an original claims handling process, involving the theft of all four wheels of a car. I used this case for my CPAP project.
What kind of student am I?
I am a student who studies intensively a few days before exams (like most people). I can learn my lessons very easily. I tend to write down everything I remember at the end to identify areas where I struggle and to focus my revisions on them.
What advice can I give?
Don’t memorize your lessons by heart, only focus on the truly necessary information.
Get interested in the insurance world by reading specialized magazines at least once a week to deepen your knowledge.
Ask questions to your internship/adventure supervisors when you don’t understand something. They will answer you in a different way than teachers do.
The last piece of advice is to visit my site to review! 😁
Why did I create help BTS Assurance?
I created help BTS Assurance to assist as many students as possible in preparing for their BTS. I noticed that many people studying at the CNED struggle to understand their courses, which are often too long and hard to digest. During my BTS, I observed that some students memorize their lessons without truly understanding their usefulness.
CNED is a great alternative for pursuing studies with national diplomas, but their methods still need improvement, as many students struggle to understand the courses.
