This is the testimonial of a student currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree who went through the BTS Insurance program and a professional license in insurance.
What studies did you undertake?
I completed a BTS Insurance, then a professional license as an advisor, underwriter, insurance manager, and a Bachelor’s in insurance and wealth management. I completed all three programs through work-study.
Why did you choose insurance? What interests you about insurance?
Before diving into insurance after my high school diploma, I was working without knowing which field to pursue. I chose work-study because it was the only way for me to continue my education while working, thus maintaining a salary, and you learn a lot more on the ground.
I like the human aspect, the fact of entering the client’s private life to help them and doing everything possible to satisfy them.
Did you have difficulty finding a company for your work-study? Where are you located? (Regions/departments)
I am in Île-de-France, and my school was the IFPASS in La Défense. I never had trouble finding an insurance company; it’s a sector that hires a lot in major cities.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to start in insurance?
Beyond the professional aspect, it’s very enriching for personal growth. It’s also a very broad field, with so many things to do that you’ll never be bored. It’s a sector that will only evolve, there will always be work, so there’s never any unemployment. Don’t hesitate to get started.
What advice would you give to someone looking for a company for an apprenticeship or internship?
To find a company, you need a well-crafted CV that stands out and you need to prepare thoroughly for interviews. Don’t hesitate to participate in fairs or job dating events.
Did you encounter difficulties with each program? Which program did you prefer?
I faced difficulties in property damage for the BTS and during my license, but not in the Bachelor’s. I didn’t encounter any difficulties in the Bachelor’s because the program was specialized in personal insurance, which is my strongest area.
Among the three programs, I preferred the BTS because that’s where you learn everything. The teachers were more pedagogical, with very well-structured lessons.
Do you have an ideal career plan?
If I were to build a career in insurance, it would be as a wealth management advisor, because I appreciate the contact with clients and the opportunity to develop a portfolio with some proximity to them, so they stay loyal and we can offer the most suitable solutions.
