Témoignage 1 : Student in BTS Insurance Returning to Study

Partager

This is the testimony of a student in BTS Assurance who has had an unconventional and original background.

What grade are you in ?

I completed a vocational baccalaureate in fashion that I obtained in 2013, then a one-year license in foreign languages applied. From 2014 to 2017, I worked in various shops. (Coton Coton counters, Intermarché, McDonald’s…).

After all that, why did you choose insurance ?

At the beginning of 2017, I took a step back and reflected on my future. I was 21 years old, and for me, it was essential to know where I wanted to go for my future, so I tried to get closer to what I loved (languages, I am bilingual from birth and had an aptitude for learning other languages). But it didn’t work. At the start of 2017, I took a step back and reflected on my future. I was 21, and it was essential for me to know where I wanted to go for my future, so I tried to get closer to what I loved (languages, I am bilingual from birth and had an aptitude for learning other languages). But it didn’t work. I loved what she told me, and for me, it was obvious to head towards insurance. Everything happened smoothly.

What interests you about insurance ?

I enjoy interacting with clients, I love helping them, allowing them to find solutions. As an insurer, we are here to sell our products, but above all, to find solutions so that our clients are well insured, and that’s what I like about insurance.

Where did you do your internship or apprenticeship ? (Broker, general agent…)

I didn’t have the chance to do my first year in apprenticeship, so I did a 2-month internship with a AXA general agent (who subsequently hired me for 3 weeks during the summer?). Then, I completed the internship at the beginning of my second year of BTS with an Aviva agent. I switched to an apprenticeship during my second year with a GAN general agent, and we also do brokerage.

Did you have trouble finding your internship company ?

Not at all! Actually, I was lucky because the AXA agent is my grandmother’s insurer, and I had already contacted the Aviva agent for an apprenticeship; he wasn’t hiring but was taking interns.

How long before the start of the school year did you start your search ?

For my first-year internship, I started a month in advance, knowing that it would take place at the end of May. For my second year, I started a week early, knowing that my internship started at the end of October.

What would you advise someone wanting to start a BTS Assurance ?

Go for it with your eyes closed and study well! It’s a really interesting field, but it can also be quite complex.

Did you encounter difficulties when you started the BTS ?

A little, to get back into the rhythm after 3 years without being in an academic environment! But I have friends who helped me, and now it’s going better.

What kind of difficulties were they ?

Difficulty getting back into revision mode and adapting to an academic rhythm where you have to get up early. Since I worked in the food service industry, I had irregular hours.

Do you think you’ll do insurance all your life ?

I hope so. I try to be versatile; next year, I will start a license in insurance/banking/finance to explore more fields.

Do you find the BTS Assurance difficult? Which subject gave you the most trouble ?

Not particularly, as long as you study the lessons.

Claims management was challenging for me. I find it the most difficult because you need to be very meticulous with laws, conventions, etc.

What do you think about the subjects taught in BTS? What is your favorite subject ?

They are quite comprehensive! That’s what I see in the company.

Life insurance! Everything related to health, like life insurance, for example.

What type of student are you? (Studying a lot, little, with ease…)

Let’s say I have an ease in retaining what I learn or see, so I am average. When I really focus on revision (which is the case this year because I have the BTS at the end of the year), I know I can give my all and reach a pretty good level.

Would you like to specialize in a particular field later ?

I would mainly like to specialize in insurance, but also do some finance (life insurance…) and banking at the place I was working.

Do you already have an ideal career plan ?

I want to be a general agent! I would love to take over someone’s portfolio later or initially partner up. I know I will have the skills to do this job in a good company, preferably.

Finally, I just think that this isn’t an easy profession; insurers are often seen as crooks or scammers. It’s a shame that people have that image, when in fact it’s such a great career.
