Here is the testimonial of a second-year BTS Assurance student giving her opinion on the BTS Assurance
What class are you in? What type of establishment? (High school, CNED…)
I am in my second year of BTS assurance at a public high school in Juan-les-Pins.
Why did you choose the insurance world? What interests you?
I didn’t really choose it; I wanted to be an educator for judicial protection of youth, but I failed my second test in my exam. So, insurance was my first choice on APB, and I was accepted on the first selection without knowing what I was getting into.
Are you in alternating training or initial training? And what type of company are you in? (general agent, broker, mutual)
I am in initial training, but with one day a week in the company (+ internships). I work for a broker who specializes more in personal insurance.
What would you advise to a student wanting to get into insurance studies?
Think carefully about your choice! Insurance isn’t the greatest joy; for example, I stayed in insurance because I found a good boss, a good team within my company, I love working there! Otherwise, I would have left the BTS a long time ago.
Did you encounter difficulties when you started? (in class and at the company) Which ones?
Yes, many! At first, the courses weren’t great! I didn’t connect at all, I didn’t like it that much! So, I didn’t put much effort into the courses! I was doing the bare minimum (which is still the case), and then, finding my company was really tough, but in the end, it’s the best boss I’ve ever had!
Do you think you will do insurance your whole life? Why?
All my life? No, I don’t think so! If I get hired at the company I am currently working at, yes, why not; otherwise, I would find another path! Life isn’t over if you don’t work in the field you studied!
Was there a big change between high school and BTS?
Not really. The subjects are more focused on the specific BTS, but not really.
Do you find BTS difficult? Which subjects do you find hard? And why do you find them difficult?
If you don’t study and don’t pay attention in class, yes, it can be difficult, but not to the point of not passing your BTS: no! The difficult subjects are personal and property insurance. They are hard because there is a lot to remember and various calculations as well.
What type of student are you? (Not revising much with ease, studying a lot, studying little…)
I am a student who does the bare minimum but manages to get by. I don’t revise, but I have good grades, which saves me quite a bit.
Do you have any tips for better learning your courses?
Just listening in class is the most important, I think!
If you continue your studies, what would you like to specialize in?
I am not continuing my studies. It’s all over for me!
Do you already have an ideal career plan?
Ideally, I would like to be hired where I am currently working. Otherwise, I have no idea.
Do you have anything to add?
A little advice for future BTS assurance students: either you hang in from the start, and it’s better for you; for others who struggle, think carefully if you really want to continue in this field, or consider changing to another path!
