This is the testimonial of a student currently in BTS Insurance with a dream to create her own insurance company.
What were you doing before the BTS? What grade are you in? What type of institution? (High school, CNED…)
Before my BTS, I completed a final year S in high school.
Why did you choose the insurance world? What interests you?
I chose the insurance industry because I wanted to work in an office, and insurance in general interests me a lot, even more since I started.
Are you in an apprenticeship or initial training? And what type of company are you in? (general agent, broker, mutual insurance)
I am in an apprenticeship with an insurance broker.
What advice would you give to a student wanting to start a career in insurance studies?
I would advise them to do it through an apprenticeship if possible, and above all, to stay focused, because when you love what you do, it’s really an interesting field.
Did you face any difficulties when you started? (in class and in the company) Which ones?
No, I don’t have any particular difficulties. Except for the claims management courses, which seem quite complicated to me.
Do you think you’ll do insurance for your whole life? Why?
I have no idea at all. I would really like to start my own insurance company anyway.
Was there a big change between high school and the BTS?
Yes, because we only have essential courses, and these courses can be useful in daily life, so very interesting. Since I come from a BAC S, I no longer have the same subjects, no more history or physics, which is much better for me.
Do you find the BTS difficult? Which subjects do you find hard? And why do you find them difficult?
No, it’s not difficult. When you want to, you can. If you make no effort, it’s normal for difficulties to increase.
What kind of student are you? (Not reviewing too much with ease, studying a lot, studying little…)
I am a serious student, even more since I am in BTS. I make a lot of revision notes, and I thoroughly redo all the exercises we’ve seen in class. I listen carefully in class, which helps me a lot. Listening is a big part of learning, so don’t neglect it.
Do you have any tips for better learning your lessons?
- Listening carefully is already the first thing to do.
- Highlight the really essential sentences
- Make summary notes.
- And most importantly, do lots of exercises! Nothing beats practice.
If you continue your studies, what would you like to specialize in?
I just want to get my BTS in insurance; I don’t plan to pursue a license.
Do you already have an ideal career plan?
I would like to start my own insurance company, or become a manager or expert.
