Testimony from a student in BTS Assurance who made a default choice. What to do when the BTS Assurance is not your first choice?
Here is the testimony of a student who went into BTS Assurance, not really wanting to “because” of their choices on Parcoursup.
What grade are you in and what were you doing before joining BTS Assurance?
I am in my second year of BTS, and before starting this BTS, I completed a Bac STMG with a marketing option.
Why did you choose insurance? What interests you about insurance?
I was accepted by default; my first choice was BTS NRDC. I don’t particularly like BTS Assurance, but I enjoyed my experience in an agency because it involves a commercial aspect.
In which companies did you complete your internships? (Broker, general agent.)
During the first six months of my first year, I was in a brokerage firm, then I changed companies during my first year. I completed my end-of-first-year internship and my second-year internship with a general agent AXA.
Did you have trouble finding another company and why? How much time did you have to find a company?
It was very difficult to find a company because few people had time to dedicate to me. For those entering BTS Assurance without having found an internship, the school requires them to start searching from the beginning of the school year, and the deadline is the end of December.
What would you advise someone wanting to join a BTS Assurance?
To give up… No, I’m joking. I would advise that this person thoroughly research this program so they know what they are getting into. It should not be chosen by default, because I believe you need to love it even before starting. Otherwise, it’s important to connect with the profession within the two months after starting to be able to switch more easily if this BTS isn’t right for us.
Do you find BTS Assurance difficult?
Yes, a little bit, because since I didn’t connect from the start, I wasn’t fully committed, so I fell behind in my coursework.
