In this article, we will see how to succeed in your CV, to join the BTS Assurance.

What is a CV?

The CV or Curriculum Vitae is a document that details your professional history, experiences, and studies. Don’t forget to add your new skills as you acquire them. It consists of different sections: “Personal Information (contact)”, “Skills”, “Professional Experience”, “Education (Studies)”, and “Interests”. To succeed with your CV, it is essential to include these various categories.

How to structure your CV?

Here are the main sections your CV should include:

  • A title for your CV
  • Personal information (contact)
  • Skills (software, languages mastered…)
  • Professional experience
  • Education and/or training
  • Interests (sports and/or extracurricular activities, hobbies, humanitarian causes, etc.)

Important rules to keep in mind:

  • A Curriculum Vitae should not be signed or dated.
  • Avoid spelling mistakes
  • The CV should not exceed 1 page.
  • It should follow a chronological order and be easy to read.
  • Include only information that you deem useful and important
  • Keep in mind that everything you include in your CV could be used by the recruiter during the interview. Therefore, avoid lying!
  • Specify for each position held, the missions and tasks carried out.
  • Indicate the level of your skills

What must you absolutely do?

Highlight your skills: It is important for success to showcase your main skills and experiences. For those with many professional experiences, prioritize the most recent ones and those most relevant to the desired position. Think about the skills the recruiter might look for in this role, and try to incorporate them into the various sections of your Curriculum Vitae.

Remember that recruiters receive hundreds of CVs, especially in large companies.

Successful CV

If you are looking for an apprenticeship in insurance, start with small companies, which receive fewer applications.

Your CV should be clear and visually appealing. This is why it is important to highlight the main information. Make it easier for the recruiter. It is also important to tailor your CV for each job offer.

CV = 1 page

Creating a CV on a single page helps avoid overwhelming the recruiter with an influx of information. It will also force you to carefully select the information to include in your CV, focusing on what best highlights your profile. Include the essential points in your CV, and save the details for the interview.

In some cases, a 2-page CV may be acceptable if you have extensive professional experience.

If you have limited professional experience or are a student, a one-page CV is strongly recommended.

The recruiter will get a better idea of the skills and knowledge you have practically applied during your recent experiences.

Describe the main tasks performed, as well as the results achieved. Be precise and concise; save the details for the interview.

Languages spoken

Indicate your proficiency level in languages (Spanish, English…), in IT skills (Word, Excel, Photoshop…), etc. This allows the recruiter to better assess your skills. These elements can make a difference compared to other candidates.

Include all contact information in your CV through which the recruiter can reach you. The more contact methods, the better (email, phone, Skype, LinkedIn…).

Tools to create your CV?

Free support: CV designer, Canva, or free word processing software.

With these two tools, you only need to create an account and you can edit your CV as you wish.

CV designer:

You have the possibility to create your CVs and cover letters very easily.

The sections are already created for you; you just need to fill in your information. You can modify or delete existing sections. You can also add your skill levels or mastery of a tool with an evaluation bar. The software is entirely in French. There is a paid version offering to review your CV and cover letters. Sharing your CV on the platform gives access to CV analytics. A job search section is included, allowing you to select job offers matching your CV.

Canva:

You have access to many different styles of CVs with attractive graphics. With Canva, your options are limited to creating CVs. Most templates are free, but some are paid. Even with free templates, you still have a wide choice.

Paid support:

Word

I include Word in paid options because it requires an annual subscription that is paid.

A future document will cover cover letters and another one will focus on interview preparation.
