Example of an introductory paragraph for a document synthesis

First, we will examine extraordinary beings who serve as references for us (each one), and secondly, we will study (observe) the accessibility of everyone to the extraordinary according to our corpus.

First of all, all the documents in the corpus agree on defining extraordinary beings through heroic actions. Indeed, in Pangrazzi’s article, the hero is capable of sacrificing themselves for others, as seen at the beginning of the text. Similarly, Umberto ECO relies on Superman to demonstrate that it’s the struggle that makes one superior. Margot, aka Dragon Girl, also has the mission to save the world, which makes her unique. Finally, the Emmaüs campaign poster presents volunteering as a highly valuable dedication, as shown by the characters in “ORDINARY” which become “extraordinary” through this very act of volunteering.

Thus, the four documents in the corpus depict extraordinary beings who are models because they perform heroic actions, possess remarkable qualities, and uphold ideal values. Moreover, these extraordinary individuals are accessible to anyone who wishes to become one. In fact, everyone starts as extraordinary, and they are models to admire. Becoming a hero is merely a matter of willpower.

Therefore, the corpus supports the idea that a hero can be an ordinary person, admired by all for their exceptional values.

Some years ago, a hurricane struck Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy, devastating everything in its path. In the face of this disaster, residents rescued as many people as possible. Then, rescue workers intervened with reinforcements from France, and generosity was expressed through donations to associations. All these acts constitute small extraordinary deeds for everyone.

The different types of synthesis

There are several types of syntheses, each with its own characteristics, and therefore need to be approached somewhat differently. They include:

  • The synthesis note, written during an exam or a competition: this exercise aims to assess the candidate’s ability to analyze a text. It is not about evaluating their knowledge of the subject discussed in the provided text but about judging their synthesis skills, reasoning, and of course, their writing abilities. The challenge is that this task must be completed in a limited time, and the candidate should not copy the text but summarize it through rephrasing. To succeed, you should practice beforehand after learning the basics.
  • The administrative synthesis: it is almost identical to the previous one. However, it can take the form of an administrative note when addressed to one or multiple services. It can serve as an informational letter when sent to citizens of the public service. Additionally, this document can be forwarded to a superior to convey information or proposals regarding a problem or specific case.
  • The marketing synthesis: this last type is written to promote a project or Sales proposal. It must be concise, brief, and persuasive. It is intended to be read by partners, business leaders, or banks, for example. Several documents may be synthesized, such as a project proposal, a market study, etc.

To produce a document synthesis, it is important to understand its different parts. This document must include a brief introduction clearly presenting the theme. Then, there is a development section providing answers to the problem posed in the introduction, and the document concludes with a brief summary of the ideas discussed in the plan.

The goal is not to assess their knowledge of the subject in the provided text but to judge their synthesis skills, reasoning, and writing skills. The difficulty lies in completing this task within a limited time, and the candidate must not copy the text but summarize by reformulating it. Practice beforehand after learning the basics is essential for success.
  • The administrative synthesis: it is almost identical to the previous one. However, it can take the form of an administrative note when addressed to one or more services. It can serve as an informational letter sent to citizens of the public service or be forwarded to a superior to convey information or proposals related to a specific problem or case.
  • The marketing synthesis: this is written to promote a project or commercial proposal. It must be concise, brief, and persuasive. It is intended to be read by partners, business leaders, or banks. Several documents, such as a project proposal or a market study, can be summarized.

To produce a document synthesis, it is necessary to know its parts. It should include a short introduction clearly presenting the theme, followed by a development answering the question posed in the introduction, and conclude with a brief summary of the ideas discussed in the plan.
