Obtaining and Results of the Motorcycle License: Key Steps
Speaking of success in obtaining a motorcycle license, it is crucial to recall the importance of responsible and rule-abiding riding behavior. Indeed, certain behaviors can lead to serious consequences, both for yourself and for other road users. For example, hit-and-run offenses are particularly serious and can result in heavy penalties. If you want to learn more about this topic and its associated consequences, we invite you to read our dedicated article titled “The consequences of hit-and-run“. This way, you will be better informed about the risks involved and the importance of adopting exemplary conduct after obtaining your motorcycle license.

The motorcycle license tests

The motorcycle license consists of two main stages: the theory test and practical tests. To qualify for the practical exams, each candidate must first pass the theory test.

Theory test : This is a theoretical exam during which the candidate answers a series of questions about the road code, road safety, and first aid. To pass this stage, a minimum number of points must be achieved.

Practical tests : They are divided into two parts – the off-road test (platform) and the on-road test (public road). The off-road test includes several stations where the candidate’s technical and mechanical skills are assessed. The on-road test evaluates the ability to drive safely on public roads while respecting safety rules.

Registration and administrative procedures

To take the motorcycle license test, it is necessary to enroll at a driving school approved by the state. The institution then handles the candidate’s file and provides a NEPH number (Harmonized Prefectural Registration Number), which is essential for registering for the tests.

Before taking the tests, the candidate must provide the following documents:

– A valid identity document
– Proof of address
– A passport photo compliant with standards
– If applicable, a valid driving license (for car license holders)

Deadline requirements

After the theory test : Once the theory test is passed, the candidate has a two-year window to take and pass the practical tests. After this period, they will need to retake the theoretical exam.

After a failed attempt at the practical tests : In case of failure in one or more practical tests, the candidate must wait for a minimum of 2 weeks before being able to reattempt.

Results and online consultation

Results for the different motorcycle license tests are available online a few days after the exam. To view your result, the candidate must have their NEPH number and visit the official French administration website dedicated to exam results.

It is also possible to receive a notification via SMS or email if this option was selected during registration.

In case of success

Congratulations! If the candidate has obtained a positive result in all tests, they are now the holder of a motorcycle license. The issuance of the license is in the form of a Driving License Exam Certificate (CEPC) valid for 4 months. During this period, the holder can ride while waiting to receive the final license by mail.

In case of failure

If the candidate did not achieve the required points in one or more tests, they will need to retake the missing test(s). As previously mentioned, a minimum period of 2 weeks must be respected between attempts.

Stay vigilant and persistent

Obtaining a motorcycle license is a demanding journey that requires rigor and perseverance. It is crucial to prepare well and not to be discouraged by setbacks. Remember that road safety is paramount and that having a motorcycle license is primarily a responsibility towards oneself and other road users.

Feel free to contact your driving school for tailored support and to maximize your chances of obtaining your motorcycle license.
